And the House of Cards Comes Tumbling Down in a Storm of Corruption and Lies!
Recent events surrounding Hunter Biden's plea deal reveal a deeply troubling web of deceit and political interference. On Tuesday evening, a member of Hunter Biden's legal team misrepresented her identity in a brazen attempt to have Biden's tax returns and other documents concerning the whistleblowers’ information sealed. This was an obvious ploy to prevent the public from learning the truth about his finances and the extent of his wrongdoing.
But the truth has a way of coming out. And it did. Ted Kittila, an attorney for the GOP-led House Ways and Means Committee, filed Hunter Biden's taxpayer information and urged the judge to consider the IRS whistleblowers' testimony when deciding whether to approve the plea agreement. The Biden team, of course, did not want that information public and asked Kittila to seal it. But Kittila refused, rightly believing that the judge and American people deserve to know the truth.
Sanctions must be imposed on the person who made the call from Biden's legal team, and on all the attorneys involved. It is inconceivable that they did not know about the call, and their apology for misunderstanding does not ring true. Their actions were deliberate and calculated to deceive the judge and the American people.
Republicans have been insisting that Hunter Biden got a sweetheart deal. Republicans wanted the deal delayed or thrown out in light of the whistleblowers' testimony, and court documents filed by Kittila suggest that Hunter Biden "appears to have benefitted from political interference which calls into question the propriety of the investigation."
Hunter Biden was charged with two misdemeanor tax offenses ( failure to pay more than $100,000 in taxes from over $1.5 million in income in both 2017 and 2018) and a felony firearm offense (possession of a handgun by a drug user in 2018).
What was the plea deal? Two years of probation for the tax offenses and diversion instead of pleading guilty to a felony gun possession offense. But during the hearing, the judge raised a hypothetical question: could Hunter Biden still be charged for failing to register as a foreign agent? The defense said they believed the agreement would prohibit him from being charged, but the prosecution disagreed. The deal was rejected by the judge and Hunter Biden has entered a plea of not guilty on all charges.
